Loreto Community Housing offers a broad range of housing programs and services as described below.
Social Housing
Social Housing is provided to people on low incomes or government benefits where rent is calculated as a percentage of household income.
Social Housing includes housing that is provided by Homes Tasmania (public housing) and Community Housing Providers such as Loreto Community Housing.
Allocations for all social housing are made from a central Housing Register in accordance with the State Government’s Social Housing Policy. Properties cannot be offered to people who apply directly to us, so all applicants must contact Housing Connect for an eligibility assessment.
Affordable Housing
Affordable Housing is for people on low to moderate incomes where rent is calculated as a percentage of market rental value (although rent is often capped using an affordability measure to avoid rental stress).
Unlike Social Housing, we maintain our own waitlist of people who are looking for Affordable Housing. This means people can apply directly to us and they do not have to be on the Housing Register – you can contact our office or visit the How to Apply for Housing page on this website.
It is important to understand that we have limited Affordable Housing properties. This means we do not have regular vacancies and wait times can be very long, often many years. There is no guarantee that a suitable property will become available.
Rapid Rehousing: Family Violence
Rapid Rehousing: Family Violence (RRHFV) sits within the broader Landlord Incentive Programs portfolio which is managed by Loreto Community Housing on behalf of Homes Tasmania.
Properties are sourced and rented through the private market, then sub-let to eligible tenants in accordance with official Social Housing Policy.
RRHFV properties are allocated to people/households who are impacted, or at risk of, family violence. Properties cannot be offered to people who apply directly to us. Eligibility is assessed by Housing Connect, so applicants must contact Housing Connect for assessment. Available properties are allocated from the Housing Register.
RRHFV leases are for two years, with a possible extension after the initial lease period. Similarly to Social Housing, rent is calculated as a percentage of household income.

Affordable Private Rentals
The Affordable Private Rental (APR) program sits within the broader private rentals portfolio which is managed by Loreto Community Housing on behalf of Homes Tasmania.
The program is an initiative that encourages private owners to make properties available to applicants on the Housing Register. Private owners who participate may receive an annual incentive payment in addition to rent.
Available properties are offered to people on the Housing Register in accordance with the official Social Housing Policy. Properties cannot be offered to people who apply directly to us. All applicants must contact Housing Connect for an eligibility assessment.
APR leases are for two years, with a possible extension after the initial lease period. Rent is set using Real Estate Institute of Tasmania median market rent data.

Beyond the Wire Housing
Beyond the Wire Housing is a partnership between Loreto Community Housing, Homes Tasmania, and The Salvation Army.
Properties are allocated to eligible people who are exiting the prison system. Beyond the Wire Housing is a transitional housing program with leases of up to 12 months.
Loreto Community Housing provides the properties and manages the tenancies. The Salvation Army’s Beyond the Wire service allocates properties and supports tenants to transition into the community and plan for long term housing need.
Transitional Housing
Loreto Community Housing manages a number of transitional properties that are allocated by housing support services to applicants in need of short-term housing.
Transitional tenancies are linked to key support services which are designed to find pathways into long term sustainable housing.
