What is Build Up Tassie?

Build Up Tassie is a free pre-employment program run by Loreto Community Housing. Build Up Tassie provides individual coaching, tailored wellbeing support, skill development and industry exposure for young people looking to enter the construction industry. Build Up Tassie continues to support, train and coach apprentices and qualified trades once employed with other industry partners.

How did Build Up Tassie start?

In 2017, Loreto Community Housing – in partnership with stakeholders from across industry and community – decided to develop and fund a pilot program to help young men and women from Bridgewater, Derwent Valley, and Glenorchy to find pathways into the construction industry. Loreto Community Housing has a substantial construction pipeline know that the industry will need workers who are ready with the skills and attitudes needed to be successful in a career in construction.

How does Build Up Tassie work?

Are you in school and seeking a career in construction? Of have you finished school and are not sure how to piece together the next steps? Build Up Tassie is a free work readiness program for anyone aged between 16-24 looking to enter the construction industry.

Part 1 - Orientation

• A free 9-week Orientation Program (2 days per week).
• Industry awareness and exposure.
• Building confidence, skills and knowledge.
• Community Projects – strengthen and co-create community and individual wellbeing.
• One-on-one support and coaching.
• Licences and short courses.
• Individual pathways to employment and/or further training.

Part 2 - Work Placement

• A free 8-week work placement program with opportunity to try up to 4-5 different trades.
• Initially 3 days per week for 4 weeks, increasing to 4 days per week for the remaining period.
• Continued access to one-on-one coaching support.
• A potential for apprenticeships/traineeships and other outcomes.

Part 3 - Employment Pathways

Participants work with Build Up Tassie coaches to find the best pathway for them, often being supported into further training or employment with our Industry Partners.
