Meet Sharindi
Build Up Tassie supports a diverse cohort of participants, each who have unique barriers to employment. Sharindi has kindly shared her experience with Build Up Tassie:
“Before joining the Build Up Tassie program, I was doing odd jobs after completing my Advanced Diploma in Civil Construction and looking for an opportunity to join the construction industry.
I came across the ‘Build up Tassie free Work Readiness Program’ during my research into potential pathways for a career in construction. It immediately stood out due to its comprehensive approach to preparing young individuals for the demands of the industry, offering one-on-one support and coaching.
I saw this program as the first step toward advancing my career in construction. I thought this would provide an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build connections in the industry, ultimately laying the foundation for my career growth.
This was the first place where I had the opportunity to gain practical experience. I learned how to use various power tools and understood the safety concerns associated with them. Additionally, through this program, I was able to obtain several certifications that are necessary for working in the construction industry.
I learned how to organise small projects, delegate tasks, manage time effectively, enhance team efficiency, and implement WHS risk controls.
Our two coaches, Zac and Mel, provided invaluable support throughout the program. Their kindness and friendliness were greatly appreciated. One-on-one chats to help each participant with their progress were particularly helpful. I also enjoyed working with a young, energetic, and friendly crew.
I was excited to visit a quarry for the first time in my life and spending a week there as part of my work placement with Hazell Bros was a great opportunity for me. I was able to see the entire process in the quarry, ride in a dump truck, climb up to the crushers, and observe how they operate and are controlled.
It is a great privilege for me to start my first professional job at Hazell Bros, such a well-reputed company. I really appreciate everyone’s support for a ‘fresher’ like me and value the company’s commitment to giving opportunities to people with diverse backgrounds.
Build up Tassie was the turning point in my life where I was able to find my dream job, something I once thought impossible without experience. I’m always grateful for this program and everyone who is a part of it.
I would say joining Build Up Tassie is one of the best decisions someone could make in their life if they want practical experience in the construction industry and want to progress as a construction worker.”
